White Mountain National Forest

Our giant backyard spreads itself around and through the villages of Mt. Washington Valley, protecting them from over-development and bringing nature almost to our doorsteps. Because of it, you are never more than a few minutes from clear mountain streams and hardwood forests. A place to relax and enjoy the outdoors all seasons of the year.
The dramatic, usually snow-covered summit of Mt. Washington serves as backdrop for nearly all activities. While the Valley remains calm and peaceful, fierce storms may be savaging the tops of the Presidential Range. The mild appearance of Mt. Washington - the highest peak in northeastern U.S. - on a sunny day, belies its reputation for the "worst weather on earth," a claim substantiated by the highest winds ever being recorded there (231 mph on April 12, 1934).
